TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DIETERS

·       Those with diabetes and kidney disease- avoid this diet!  High protein and ketones affect the kidneys and liver, cause heart disease, gout and kidney disease - a greater risk for diabetics (Mayo Clinic, n.d.; Wong, 2018).
·       Because of  decreased fruit and vegetable intake, please take vitamin supplements (Fisher, 2018).
·       Dieters, take some time to learn about high fat diets and the 'bad' saturated fat which increases risk of high blood cholesterol and heart disease (Eat for Health, 2015).
·       Pregnant and breastfeeding ladies- this diet will not meet your energy requirements! Instead, consider decreasing refined sugars and increasing protein intake (Fisher, 2018)
·       If you are on medication that slows down the rate of weight loss, please consult your doctors prior to initiating the diet. These include diuretics, hormone and steroids (oestrogen, birth control pills and prednisone), psychotropic, artheitius drugs, anti-diabetic medications, tranquilisers, seizure medication and cholesterol lowering drugs (Gunnars, 2018).
·       Vegetarians may struggle to obtain nutrients as the primary protein sources include meat and fish. Consume soy-based foods for protein and nuts, seeds, olive oil and coconut oil for plant-based fat (Gunnars, 2018)
·       In later phases, ensure carbohydrates consumed are high in fibre (Finley, n.d., para. 3).
·       Increase water
·       Exercise to aid in weight loss
